A few of my favorite looks from the Steffie Christiaens Fall/Winter 2011 runway show in Paris. My blood, sweat and tears are in these clothes!

I made a collection inspired by the writer Anaïs Nin, who was an incredible observer of her world. The lushness and sensuality of her writing resonates with my desire to create clothing as a beautiful and pleasurable envelope to be wrapped in. I always think that there is something magical and otherworldly about our favorite pieces. They have the ability to inspire and transform.
I did experiments with photography of textures in black and white, as well as painting and dyeing fabrics black, and creating paintings of archetypes using black stain on wood. I also took inspiration from the dark and rich photography of Irina Ionesco.
"It is the function of art to renew our perception. What we are familiar with we cease to see. The writer shakes up the familiar scene, and, as if by magic, we see a new meaning in it. "-A. N.
"I will not be just a tourist in the world of images, just watching images passing by which I cannot live in, make love to, possess as permanent sources of joy and ecstasy. "-A. N.
